FAQs
Refilling is a simple, four-step process designed to reduce single-use plastic. We help you transition to a zero-waste lifestyle by charging only for the product you need, not the packaging.
- Bring Your Container: Use any clean jar, bottle, or bag from home.
- Weigh (The Tare): We weigh your empty container first so you don’t pay for the weight of the glass or plastic.
- Fill: Choose your favorite sustainable home or beauty products and fill 'er up!
- Pay: We subtract the starting weight, and you pay only for the final weight of the product.
Pro Tip: If your bottle has a tiny opening, grab one of our shop funnels to keep things mess-free.
You can use any clean, dry container you already own. Popular choices include old pasta jars, mason jars, Tupperware, or even cleaned-out laundry detergent jugs.
- Forgot your jar? No worries. We have a "Borrow a Jar" program for a small refundable deposit, and beautiful glass bottles available for purchase.
- San Diego Plastic Bag Ban: Please note that per California SB 1053, we do not provide plastic carryout bags. We encourage you to bring your favorite reusable tote.
We are a Latina-owned small business that prioritizes sourcing from local San Diego makers and suppliers who share our zero-waste values. We vet every brand for biodegradable ingredients, ethical labor practices, and minimal shipping waste.
We love requests. If there is a specific compostable pet product or natural skincare brand you’re looking for in San Diego, let us know. We update our inventory based on what our community needs most.
We make sustainable shopping in San Diego convenient with flexible options:
- In-Store Pickup: Order online, and we’ll have it ready for you within 24 hours. You have 48 hours to pick it up before it’s donated to our Community Care Fund.
- Curbside Pickup: Give us a ring when you’re outside, and we’ll bring your plastic-free goodies right to your car.
- Local Delivery: We offer eco-friendly delivery to select San Diego zip codes on specific days. Check our checkout page to see if your neighborhood is on the route.
To support our goal of zero-waste living, we have a focused return policy:
- Bulk Refills & Personal Care: All sales are final for health and hygiene reasons.
- Hard Goods: We offer a 7-day return window for unopened, unused items in original packaging.
- Gift Cards: Gift cards with a balance of $15 or less can be redeemed for cash in-store.
Refilling is more impactful than recycling. While only about 9% of plastic actually gets recycled globally, refilling a single bottle can save dozens of containers from the landfill over a year. By shopping at Refill Pantry SD, you are directly reducing the carbon emissions associated with manufacturing and shipping new plastic.
No, we currently do not offer shipping. We intentionally focus on local pickup and delivery in San Diego to reduce packaging waste and lower our carbon footprint.
Shipping often requires excess packaging, which increases CO₂ emissions. As a zero-waste refillery, we prioritize low-impact, community-based shopping.
Refill SD offers FREE local delivery within a 10-mile radius of 92123 on orders over $75 or through our monthly refill subscription options.
By focusing on local delivery instead of shipping, we reduce packaging waste and lower carbon emissions, making it easier to shop sustainably in San Diego.
